AI Course Builder

The AI assistant helps you draft course content faster. It does not publish anything automatically — all generated content is shown in a preview panel that you apply or discard.

Available on every plan — but it's bring-your-own-key: nothing generates until your organization adds its own API key under Settings → AI Configuration, for whichever provider you use (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or Azure OpenAI). Generation calls go to your configured provider directly, billed to your own account with them — the platform doesn't meter or charge for usage on top of that.

Connect your AI provider

  1. Go to Settings → AI Configuration
  2. Choose your provider: Anthropic (Claude models), OpenAI (GPT-4o and more), Google (Gemini models), or Azure OpenAI (enterprise GPT-4o)
  3. Pick a model from the list shown for that provider
  4. Paste your API key — it's encrypted at rest and never shown again once saved
  5. For Azure OpenAI, also fill in your Endpoint and Deployment name
  6. Click Save

Until this is set up, every tab in the AI Assistant panel will show an error asking you to configure a key first.

What the AI assistant can do

CapabilityWhat it generates
Course outlineA module and lesson structure based on your topic
Lesson contentA full text lesson draft for a given lesson title
Quiz questions5–10 multiple-choice questions for a topic or lesson
Course descriptionA 2–3 paragraph course description for the catalog

Opening the AI assistant

In the course editor, click Open AI Assistant on the banner above the course details. A side panel opens with four tabs — one for each capability.

Using each tab

Generate Outline

  1. Enter your course topic and target audience
  2. Optionally set the number of modules and estimated duration
  3. Click Generate Outline
  4. Review the suggested module and lesson titles
  5. Click Apply to Course to add the structure — existing modules are not overwritten; the new outline is appended

Write Lesson

  1. Navigate to the lesson you want to draft (the assistant reads the lesson title automatically)
  2. Optionally add a brief note about what to cover
  3. Click Generate Content
  4. Review the draft in the preview panel
  5. Click Insert into Lesson to populate the lesson editor, or Discard

You can edit the inserted content normally in the lesson editor before saving.

Generate Quiz

  1. Enter a topic or select an existing lesson to base questions on
  2. Set the number of questions (5 or 10)
  3. Click Generate Questions
  4. Review each question and its answer options; the correct answer is highlighted
  5. Click Add to Quiz to append the questions to an existing quiz lesson, or copy them individually

Write Description

  1. Enter your course topic and key learning outcomes (bullet points work well)
  2. Click Generate Description
  3. Review the output
  4. Click Apply to set it as the course description
tip

The description generator works best when you list 3–5 specific outcomes, such as "students will be able to configure Nginx" rather than "students will learn about servers."

If the AI is unavailable

If generation fails — your key is invalid, your provider account is out of quota, or the provider's API is temporarily down — the panel shows an error message. Your course content is not affected; try again once the underlying issue is resolved.

Data privacy

warning

When you use the AI assistant, the lesson title and any notes you enter are sent to whichever AI provider your organization has configured under Settings → AI Configuration. Do not enter student personal data or confidential information in the AI prompts. Data handling is governed by your own agreement with that provider — the platform does not store or process the prompt content itself.

See Data Privacy & GDPR → for the platform's full data handling policy.
